WinField United Innovation Center

River Falls, Wisconsin

Work in collaboration with Perkins&Will

Located in River Falls, Wisconsin, the WinField United Innovation Center is a 55,000-square-foot hub dedicated to cutting-edge agronomic research and product development. This Innovation hub centered around building a future of agronomic leadership bringing together partners in innovation and research from government, higher education and private enterprise.

Designed as a laboratory space focused on product discovery and enhancement, this facility includes testing and development of adjuvants, as well as seed care, plant nutrition, and crop protection products providing sound research using established methods.

The facility features a custom-designed greenhouse and growth chambers, meeting space, chemistry, seed care, and labs, including a state-of-the-art wind tunnel to evaluate the entire application process, such as crop protection and adjuvant formulations, tank mixes, nozzle performance, spray characterization, drift and droplet deposition and plant uptake. Spray application variables are tested to precisely measure drop size and how quickly the droplets move and connect with the plants.

The overall site was also designed with research and experimental nature in mind. Exterior spaces and programs include plant, crop, and other agricultural test plot activities. Environmental stewardship was also a primary focus of the design which emphasized the inclusion of stormwater management strategies as well as implementing native seed mixes, native plantings, and pollinator gardens.

Ana was the lead landscape architect for the project while employed at Perkins&Will.
