Work in collaboration with HKGi
“In my work as a scenic carpenter, I was able to work with world class designers. I love things that are designed well. I also love playgrounds and spend time with the grand kids in many of our playgrounds and get to observe what things work and why.”
— Scott Vreeland, Former MPRB Commissioner
Levin Triangle Park is a small park loved by frequent visitors and nearby residents because of its charming character and strong connection to many childhood memories experienced through generations. The park required repair and improvements to meet safety and accessibility guidelines, but acknowledging the importance of respecting and preserving the character and natural features became the project’s primary focus. Many stories shared by residents referenced their love for sitting under the old Oak tree while watching children playing for hours on the various arched climbers. The design resulted in preserving as much of the beloved existing park features with the Oak tree being the central focus of the play environment with minimal impact to its cover, respecting the informal gathering spaces, and adapting some of the play structures including the arched climbers serving as an inspiration for a new custom play experience mimicking their geometry and scale.
The project process involved a deep engagement public process for collaboration and feedback with residents, Park Board staff, and Advisory Groups to develop design concepts leading to the playground manufacturer selection through construction. The design of the new custom play structure was adopted as a product prototype for the play manufacturer and has been featured in many other parks and playgrounds around the nation.
Ana was the project manager and lead landscape architect for the project while employed at HKGi.
