From 1990 to 2011 Bruce Chamberlain curated the downtown revitalization of Mound, Minnesota, a community on storied Lake Minnetonka. His role included curation of downtown transformation, redevelopment master planning, community engagement, streetscape and public realm design, private development coordination, and implementation strategy.

Bruce spent the effort’s early years deeply engaging the community around change, preparing a downtown revitalization master plan, implementation strategy, and design guidelines. from that initial work, Bruce collaborated closely with City staff as well as elected leadership to help them launch a downtown revitalization initiative branded Mound Visions.

Leading Mound Visions over the next 18 years, Bruce worked to honor the tremendous trust granted him by the community. He provided visionary and strategic leadership in realigning and designing new streets, converting a rail line to a regional trail, rehabilitating a historic boat canal from Lake Minnetonka to the downtown core, designing and building a new waterfront greenway, marina and central square, nurturing grants and other funding, and navigating several private developments. In total, over $35 million was invested in public infrastructure and $120 million in private development. The downtown property tax base increased ten-fold. The physicality of the community is transformed for the next generation. Maybe more importantly, the community’s pride and relationship to its downtown is forever changed.
